I am not a high school teacher. At the middle school where I was teaching (NEwbern) the prinicpal initiated one male and one female and on mixed (SPED) team. This year she has moved the program to the 7th grade. The SPED team has been dissolved due to low numbers of students. We are an N5 school and just made AYP for the first time in five years.

Hello Scott, I'm Sanetta Davis, I attended one of your transition workshops 2 years ago and was very impressed. I would like to know when you will be having another professional development for the 2010-2011 school year. I have been placed over this 9th grade academy and would like to know how to proceed with the implementation process. I do have a group of teachers who are willing to work with the program. I have been an assistant principal at the high school for 3 years, so this will be a great opportunity for me.

Scott - I am trying to purchase copies of "The Ninth Grade Opportunity" for my Freshman House staff. One thing that would help would be some reviews. Are there any available? I did not see any on the website for the book. Thanks!

Scott, I notice you are a principal over a freshman transition project. Why do you not bolt a 550 pound gun vault to the floor in a central place of your school lobby and turn it into a School Archive Project? You could place 10 shelves inside the vault and have all your freshmen at the start of their freshment year write letters for the vault to focus onto their own futures. Then have them pull those letters in May and re-write them based on what they have learned and have them project forward to senior year. Then senior year have them pull those letters and write others documenting their history and projecting plans forward for 10 years. At their class 10 year reunion you could ask them to speak with your freshmen about their recommendations for success.

Hi Scott!
Really enjoyed meeting with you in Valdosta this week, in spite of the bomb threat! Took away a lot of great ideas, especially for classroom management. Showed the kids the SLANT idea and they loved it. Now, all I plan to say if I student is slumping is "SLANT!" and they will know what I mean. Good luck with the remainder of your school year and have a great day!

Hey Scott!
I have been in Harnett County for two years... I taught in Blacksburg, Salem, New Bern, NC and in PA... now back in NC. My husband was in the Marines and we moved around a lot! He is out now, thankfully, and it feels good to be settled!

Scott,
Once again I would like to say thank you for your support. I really appreciate your reviewing my presentation handout for I'm Awesome, But I Have My Limitations, recommending posting it on Freshman Transition.Ning and then facilitating the posting process. I really appreciate the support. Ron

The workshop in Charlotte was definitely worth the trip. I have already begun using a few of your ideas in my classes. Thanks again!
