Scott, this is a great thought. Many of the schools I work with and in-service struggle with the same things. My biggest frustration is seeing an educational staff without a strong leader who pulls the team together with one purpose . . . one focus.

Wow . . . I new Billy Sample was from this area, but did not know his history. I became a big fan of his when he was with the Atlanta Braves (my team too!). Thanks for sharing that story. One of the few players from my childhood that I would like to…

I think it is a great idea to share these types of stories with kids today. Many of them feel that they don't measure up and throw in the towel way too soon.

Ray, This is a really good post. I love the movie October Sky and find myself motivated by it. I work with school in McDowell Co. WVA and I have seen how poor that county is. It is hard to believe that these boys were able to accomplish what they d…

Scott, This video is phenomenal !! I am going to show it to the kids I work with Wednesday night. If I was teaching in a freshman class, this would be a great discussion starter to help kids find their true inner talent and to discuss the concept o…

Chris - what Premier site(s) would be good to put on The Freshman Transition Network as a resource?

Hey, Chris!

Thanks for joining this brand new network. This is definitely a "work in progress". Your input and ideas will play a big role in making this a useful and interactive site. Please let me know if you have ideas.

Be sure to read the "Read 1st" tab. I think that will give you a good idea of how to maximize this new network.

Check out the new "Your School" tab. This gives people a chance to leave information about and a link to their school's Freshman Transition Program. I think this could help schools connect with one another.

Be sure to "friend" the other members of the community. That will make sure that the community truly is a community.

You might find the new "Search" tab to be helpful. It's a custom Google search engine dedicated to searching sites related to freshman transition. When you go to it you choose to be a volunteer contributor and then add sites to the search engine. As more sites are added, the engine becomes more and more powerful. Know any websites that are beneficial for teachers trying to meet the needs of freshmen?

Thanks again for joining!
