Make sure you know the sort of skills/ideals/strategies that the teachers in your Freshman Transition Program are teaching your 9th graders. Then come up with ways to support and reinforce those.
For example, teachers at my school use
John Wooden's Pyramid of Success in their classrooms. When I'm meeting with students in my office I try to reinforce those lessons by referring to blocks on the Pyramid when guiding students.
Another example would be the use of the agenda book/student planner to write down homework. By occasionally stopping by a Freshman Team classroom and giving out candy or some other reward to students who have all their homework written down for the week, I can show the students that the "entire" school is on the same page.
In whatever way possible, be sure to support and reinforce the mission of your teachers.
