What if teachers were like the coaches of the Steelers?

What if the coaches on the Pittsburgh Steelers each had different expectations for the players on the team?

What if the offensive line coach expected all of his players to arrive to a game 2 hours before it started so that the offense had time to run through plays, but the coach of the receivers tells his position players that they don’t need to arrive until 15 minutes before the game started? It would be pretty hard for the offense to practice. What if the linebackers’ coach… Continue

YOU can’t meet the needs of your freshmen or transition them into high school.

That’s right – YOU can’t meet the needs of your freshmen or transition them into high school; however, the needs of freshmen can be met and freshmen can be transitioned into high school.

The key word in those sentences above was YOU. In this case, the word YOU was being used in its singular form, and in a singular sense, no individual teacher can meet the needs of freshmen. Too often educators miss out on opportunities to work together. We are split up into states, divisions, schools, departments, rooms, etc. What a shame! Together we possess the knowledge, talent, ideas, and experiences necessary to meet the needs of our students. Yet rarely are we able to work together.

Those of you who have attended a Solutions, etc. workshop know that we advocate teaming… Continue
